When should you replace your PVC curtains?

If you order high quality PVC curtains, such as the ones that we supply, then you can look forward to using them for a long time. However, they may eventually need replacing, particularly if you have purchased a lower quality PVC. But how do you know when they need to be replaced, and when they could just do with a bit of care and attention? Here we give you some pointers on how to spot a curtain that needs replacing as soon as possible.

When they’re too scratched

As they are used, PVC curtains can tend to get all kinds of damage thrown at them. While PVC is very durable and cannot easily be broken or damaged, you will see small scratches building up over time. When it gets to the point that you can longer really see through the curtains, you need to assess them carefully. If they are no longer transparent, they could pose a health and safety risk. Don’t be too hasty to replace them, however. It’s important that you give them a good check over first. Your primary action should be to take a bucket of soap and water and start scrubbing the PVC clean. It could well be that dirt has built up onto the curtains and in the scratches which are already present, making it look worse than it is. If everything becomes visible once your cleaning is done, they don’t need repairing just yet. If it doesn’t, then you should order a new set.

When they lose chunks

It’s quite difficult to cut PVC by accident, but it can happen. If a large, heavy, or sharp object should be pushed through the curtains, it is possible that some damage could be done. Most of them time, this will only be superficial, and should be no cause for concern. From time to time, however, you may find a small section of the curtain to be cut off. This could be a small gouge in the curtain, or could even be the lower half of a strip missing. When this happens, you should certainly at least replace that strip. This can have repercussions for the efficiency of the curtains. If you are using them to block heat, noise, or pests from moving beyond the curtain, then it will not be able to do the job as well with a chunk missing. Make sure that you place an order quickly to prevent a long term issue.

When they crack

When you use PVC curtains in a temperature controlled area in the lower range, you may find that your PVC starts to crack. This is usually because you have used a lower grade PVC which is not rated for low temperatures. Try to make sure that you select the highest possible quality to prevent this from happening. If you do find some cracks, however, this is definitely a sign that your PVC curtains need to be replaced. They will no longer be as effective at the task they are used for, and may be more susceptible to further breaks as a result of the cracks. You should try to ensure that they are replaced as soon as possible, and with the correct kind of PVC. Polar grade strip curtains are the best choice.

To fit a new area

Finally, when you are designing a new area to be sectioned off with PVC curtains, it’s not always a great idea to use the old ones and simply move them around. This is because PVC curtains should be cut to the exact size of the space you are buying them for. If there is a gap at either end, or underneath the curtains, they will not be as effective. If they are too long and trail on the floor, this could represent a health and safety hazard. It’s far better to simply order some new curtains for the new measurements, than to try and make the old ones work.

If you are in need of some new PVC curtains, be sure to only order the best. The highest quality PVC will last the longest before you need to replace it again. This could give you a huge saving over time.
